CAN-SPAM

The CAN-SPAM Act was signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2003. It established national standards for sending commercial email marketing campaigns and is enforced by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). It focuses on unsubscribe compliance, content compliance, and sending behavior compliance. It also requires that opt out requests need to be honored in 10 days. The law also requires that the unsubscribe mechanism must be able to process opt-out requests for at least 30 days after the transmission of the original message.
