The new year is fast approaching, and it’s time to take a fresh look at your existing marketing materials. And giving a facelift to your welcome email is a perfect place to start.
Transcript: 4 Elements of the Perfect Welcome Email
With the new year right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to reexamine next year’s strategies. One place that can use a yearly touch-up – your welcome email.
I’m Shane Phair, Chief Marketing Officer at Campaign Monitor, and this is The Email Minute.
The welcome email is usually subject to the set-it-and-forget-it rule. So let’s look at what makes a perfect welcome email, and see where you can refresh this message.
First thing’s first: your welcome email needs to make it easy to get started. So whatever that looks like – maybe signing into an app, setting up a profile, browsing products, or choosing email preferences, the first step needs to be easy and clear.
Second: introduce yourself. This is a great time to start building a relationship with your subscriber. But do it in a way that makes sense: introduce people in your company if that’s who the subscriber may be interacting with, but otherwise introduce your company in a more general way.
Third thing: keep it simple. You’ll have plenty of time to send information to this subscriber. Keep this first message simple and to the point.
Finally, consider giving a coupon or offer as a welcome gift. This offer needs to be presented as a gift, not as a promotion.
Remember: you’re building a relationship with this new subscriber, so make them feel like they made the right choice by subscribing, and get them acquainted with your brand in genuine and friendly ways.
